{"id":1116,"date":"2015-03-29T13:18:56","date_gmt":"2015-03-29T13:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcmangel.net\/?page_id=1116"},"modified":"2016-04-19T00:25:36","modified_gmt":"2016-04-19T00:25:36","slug":"shabbat-hagadoltzav-5776","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marcmangel.net\/?page_id=1116","title":{"rendered":"Shabbat HaGadol\/Tzav (5775)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Drash Cards for Shabbat HaGadol\/Tzav (5775)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>by Marc Mangel<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why is this called &#8220;<em>Shabbat Hagadol<\/em>&#8220;?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Midrash Rabbah, The Tur, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Peri_Hadash&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><em>Peri Hadash<\/em><\/a>: The great miracle of today is that when the Israelites observed the first commandment they were given \u2013 to collect the lambs for the Paschal sacrifice, they were able to do so.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hatam_Sofer\"><em>Hatam Sofer<\/em><\/a> writes: On this day the Jewish people fully\u2018returned\u2019 (<em>Teshuvah<\/em>) to their commitment and faith in God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2022 The <em>Haftorah<\/em> read in many communities on this Shabbat speaks of the coming of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chabad.org\/article.asp?AID=332562\">Moshiach<\/a>, referring to the day of his arrival as the &#8220;<em>yom Hashem hagadol v&#8217;hanora<\/em>&#8221; &#8212; the &#8220;great&#8221; and awesome day of the Lord<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This the day when the rabbis traditionally deliver extensive lectures about the laws of Passover, and pontificate about the lessons to be learned from the holiday. A sermon gadol!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Mangel: Passover is the check-in for the decisions we made at during the days of awe. How are we doing towards are goal? Are we escaping from the things that enslave us?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Which brings us to the opening verses of Tzav: \u201cThis is the Torah of the burnt-offering\u2026a fire must always burn on the altar; it may not go out\u201d (Ch 6:v 1, 6)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>These opening verses are recited in the Sephardic and Hasidic prayers each morning as the introduction to worship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We don\u2019t make deals with God.
