Rather it means appointment.<\/p>\n<div>\u2022The Israelites traveled from Egypt through the desert to make appointment at Sinai.<\/div>\n<p>\u2022At the time of the Temple, the Jews counted 7 weeks from the day after the 15<sup>th<\/sup> of Nissan, to bring the &#8216;new offering&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 What do we do? We count the omer. Why?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022The Alter Rebbe interpreted \u201cyou must count\u201d (Usfartem [Ch 23, v 15]) as \u201cYou must make yourselves bright \u2013 you must work on yourself\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022The counting of the omer helps this because each day we associate a major Sefirah and one minor Sefirah within it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Each of the sefirot has an inner emotion associated with it<\/p>\n<p>Chesed == Love<\/p>\n<p>Gevurah == Fear<\/p>\n<p>Tiferet == Mercy, empathy<\/p>\n<p>Netzach == Confidence<\/p>\n<p>Hod == Sincerity<\/p>\n<p>Yesod == Truth<\/p>\n<p>Malchut == Humility<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Today is Malchut b\u2019Hod: we are developing humility within sincerity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022When we count the omer, we are on a path of self improvement \u2013 heading towards our appointment on Shavuout.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022On a Yom-tov, the appointment is in God\u2019s house and we are to travel there \u2014 to the Temple \u2014 and bring a gift \u2014 as every good guest should do<\/p>\n<p>\u2022But of course we have weekly appointments (Shabbat) with God and even daily appointments (Shachrit, Mincha, Maariv)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Formal appointments are great but the relationship is best when one can drop in any time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Imagine the world we\u2019d have if we behaved as if we knew that the Sechinah could drop in on us at any time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drash Cards for Emor (5776) by Marc Mangel \u2022 Today we read Ch 22, v17 \u2013 Ch 23:22 about the Moedim and the Omer. \u2022 Rav Solevetchik said that \u2018mo-ed\u2019 does not mean festival.
