For a VeryYoung Scholar<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The waves ceased their crashing sound<\/p>\n

the tide had gone out<\/p>\n

and silence all around.<\/p>\n

We stood above and looked below<\/p>\n

to rocky beaches with little<\/p>\n

pools that slowly flow.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And suddenly she spied a cat<\/p>\n

that slowly made its way<\/p>\n

between the crags and water to a spot<\/p>\n

where others sat.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“That must be a sand cat”<\/p>\n

she shouted with delight and glee<\/p>\n

and turning<\/p>\n

gave a hug to me.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Indeed, indeed, it must be, yes”<\/p>\n

said I<\/p>\n

but snickered — thinking of<\/p>\n

a child’s guess.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Months have passed since the visit to the bay<\/p>\n

and seeing the cat on that day<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And then last night we played with cards<\/p>\n

that hold upon them animals and names<\/p>\n

some little known<\/p>\n

and some of fame.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She pulled a card and showed to me<\/p>\n

“Look, this is a sand cat”<\/p>\n

“And this is a regular cat”<\/p>\n

In stunned silence I took the card<\/p>\n

for I just had to see.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Indeed, indeed, oh yes, oh yes<\/p>\n

there are such things as sand cats<\/p>\n

it was not just a lucky guess.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But wait now<\/p>\n

for on the back of the card<\/p>\n

there are facts about the cat<\/p>\n

so one can read and<\/p>\n

learn to wow<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So I read the facts about the sand cat<\/p>\n

and my surprise is only greater<\/p>\n

the old sand cat may be slow and fat<\/p>\n

and white as we saw<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the sand cat is not found by the by<\/p>\n

neither night nor day<\/p>\n

rather if one ways to find a sand cat<\/p>\n

he must such the desert.<\/p>\n
