{"id":2077,"date":"2015-12-17T02:03:38","date_gmt":"2015-12-17T02:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcmangel.net\/?page_id=2077"},"modified":"2017-02-07T17:29:48","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T17:29:48","slug":"beshallach-5760","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/marcmangel.net\/?page_id=2077","title":{"rendered":"BeShallach (5760)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Drash Cards for BeShallach (5760)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>by Marc Mangel<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 We have the Exodus, the Red Sea splitting, manna feeding the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Then the attack of Amalek happens and we are told to blot out Amalek (Ch 17, v 9).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 How could God &#8212; who has just redeemed the people &#8212; let this happen?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One answer comes from Pike Avot, 4-10: &#8220;Do not judge the unique one&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 But this gets us into the dangerous topic of Jewish belief<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Heschel tells us that the paradox of Judaism is that the infinite God is concerned with finite man &#8212; nothing is trite or irrelevant in the eyes of God<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 So how do we get God among us even when things like the attack of Amalek happens?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Heschel again: A Jew is asked to take a leap of action than a leap of faith. To get God among us, do a mitzvah &#8212; any mitzvah.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Heschel continues: \u00a0Judaism stands and falls with the idea of the absolute of relevance of human deeds. \u00a0By<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> living<\/span> as Jews we attain\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">faith<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>as Jews.
