\u2022 Today — first a little bit about words<\/p>\n

\u2022 After the first day, we read “Yom Echad” but after the sixth “Yom\u00a0Ha\u00a0<\/span>SheShe” (Ch 4, v 31). \u00a0Also in that verse we have “Et Kol” rather than “Et HaCol” \u00a0 — indicating this about the whole of what was created rather than all that God created. \u00a0\u00a0And in that verse we have “Tov Me-od” rather than just “Tov”<\/p>\n

\u2022 And evil: Ch 4, v 7 tells us that there is an inclination in us to evil \u00a0— it is easy to be a saint if there are no challenges.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Musar movement was started by Rabbi Israel Salanter in Lithuania who felt that non-Chasidic Jewry was brittle with intellect and arcane scholarship.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Muser movement had the goal to create urban centers for ethical reflection.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Think about these different questions. \u00a0“I am given to greed. \u00a0How did greed\u00a0play a role in my day?”<\/p>\n

\u2022 “I act greedily” vs “I am greedy”<\/p>\n

\u2022 Saying “I am a thief” means that teshuvah\u00a0is impossible. \u00a0Saying “I stole” means that teshuvah\u00a0is possible<\/p>\n
