Chasing Ancestors<\/strong><\/p>\n

We all have ancestors \u2013 it is a law of biology<\/p>\n

(unlike whether, or for how long, we have descendants)<\/p>\n

But where are they in time and space?<\/p>\n

How do we find them?<\/p>\n

And once found, how do we learn from them?<\/p>\n

From the past and across great distance<\/p>\n

What can they tell us about ourselves?<\/p>\n

I am searching ancestors \u2013 chasing them in time<\/p>\n

and space<\/p>\n

Just today, I found another. Isak Pflugeisen\u2013 will you teach your great-grandson?<\/p>\n

I want to learn from you.<\/p>\n

I am chasing ancestors.<\/p>\n

I am seeking their secrets.<\/p>\n

My grandparents \u2013 four — handed to me by my parents<\/p>\n

Though I only knew one of them<\/p>\n

But even they had secrets<\/p>\n

Why Markus Pflugeisen, rather than Markus Mangel (now answered)<\/p>\n

Toni and Markus dying within a year of each other<\/p>\n

in Vienna, before the real horrors started<\/p>\n

Bessie \u2013 you had three husbands but two are invisible thus far<\/p>\n

There are 2 times as many ancestors<\/p>\n

Can I ever find you all?<\/p>\n

I have found 4 \u2013 Toni\u2019s grandparents<\/p>\n

Jakob Menkes ~ Chaje Meth<\/p>\n

Only 12 remain, a lifetime of chasing<\/p>\n

Cousins!! Now that is something — how to count them<\/p>\n

And their mysteries!!<\/p>\n

Isak and Riwka \u2013 were you twins? Or did you<\/p>\n

change in your age in a census? And why?<\/p>\n

I am in the 21st<\/sup> century seeking people from the 19th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

I lack a time machine but have devices thought<\/p>\n

impossible even for a futuristic world<\/p>\n

They transport me in time and space to Austria, to Poland, to Russia 150 years ago, \u00a0200 years ago.<\/p>\n
