A Birthday Poem<\/strong><\/p>\n

To JB on 28 Jan 88\u00a0from Dad<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

13 yrs, 13 yrs<\/span><\/p>\n

Suddenly brought together<\/p>\n

We’ve done it now<\/p>\n

Done it and it couldn’t be better<\/p>\n

Let’s hit the sky<\/p>\n

and not come down<\/p>\n

to feel the ground<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I still recall your day when one<\/p>\n

With finger raised over<\/p>\n

fiery cake<\/p>\n

And warning “hot” — the world you knew<\/p>\n

With your hand ashake<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Just the other day you spoke<\/p>\n

Of our bad luck with kites<\/p>\n

on windless days and frothy nights<\/p>\n

We laughed over Flying Tiger<\/p>\n

Captured by that old oak tree<\/p>\n

Snarled there forever<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When you were born and<\/p>\n

still so young<\/p>\n

Your Mom and I doubted so<\/p>\n

thast we could do<\/p>\n

the job that had to be done<\/p>\n

Yet here you stand so<\/p>\n

bright and tall<\/p>\n

with strength and grace<\/p>\n

shine in your eyes<\/p>\n

and smile on your face<\/p>\n

All these tell me that the job’s been done<\/p>\n
