To sanctify the world.\u00a0 Three hints from this weeks Torah portion<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hint #1.\u00a0 Ch 1, v 1:\u00a0 \u201cThese are the words that Moses spoke\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Association of Moses and words?\u00a0 Shmot 4:10 \u201cOh Lord, I am not a man of words\u201d. But now a whole book. What is different.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 40 years has passed, in which a record of action has turned one who was \u2018not a man of words\u2019 to one who has an entire book of words. We say \u201cActions speak louder than words\u201d and there is no better example than Moses himself.\u00a0 We do not sanctify the world by talking about it; we sanctify the world by doing Mitzvot.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hint #2: Beginning Ch 1, v 16:\u00a0 Judge righteously. (Nehama: Judge Righteously!) Long set of rules but<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do not favor persons; hear a small dispute equally as a large one; hear a poor person with the same respect as a rich person.\u00a0 The Torah is concerned that we do not pervert justice. Can we have a sanctified world that is not a just world?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Hint #3:\u00a0 What to worry about.\u00a0 Shabbat Hazon, before Tisha B\u2019Av.\u00a0 Ch1, v 12:\u00a0 \u201cHow (Eicha) can I bear this myself?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lamentations begins \u201cHow (Eichas) does this city sit solitary? One that was full of people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Pinchas Peli: \u201c How and not why is the word with which the Bible confronts catastrophe and evil. We are not to look weepingly at catastrophe and cry \u2018Why did this happen to me?\u201d. We may never find out. What is important, however, is to investigate how the evil occurred\u2026And now that it has happened, how are we to cope with it?
