Spring
by Marc Mangel
It’s the time of year when the earth opens
its warmth full blast and the wind
beckons the trees to live again
and the people come out from their
hibernators to take a long
hard look around
they see what they like
so here we all are. on the grass in shirts
and in shorts and in halter tops and no tops
and smiling while talking.
we talk about learning and loving and growing
and being. God knows we talk
while the worms dance in the puddles, we talk.
while the wheat begins its annual trek to
harvest time, we talk. while the trees show
they are alive, we talk. do we learn?
sometimes?
do we love. not always. do we grow. it depends.
are we being. if we try.
