Spring Comes

Spring Comes

by Marc Mangel

Spring comes

It blusters in with shouts of wind

and slaps of cold to

remind you that sunshine

alone doesn’t

make summer

Little girls whose once tanned faces

are now so pale

revel in spring

they’d run naked if we let

them

they’d swim in rain puddles

and eat mud pie

they seem to suffer a

nearly fatal case of

spring fever

Dogs run in spring

to feel the wind on their faces

dogs lie in spring

to feel a warm sun

heat their winter coat

that’s yet to fall off

Dogs dance a special

dance in spring

a love of life and all

things good

The woman I love is

most beautiful in

spring

when the earth comes

alive again

she too

smiles a new smile of life

and fills my heart with

gladness
