The Seat on the Bus (1972)

The Seat on the Bus

by Marc Mangel

there is one seat on the bus which is hated

it is the seat of knowledge

the seat facing the remaining ones

why it is hated:

because on buses people drop their

masks and their faces show

their minds and souls

and no one likes another to know

his greed or bitterness or worry

and no on likes to state

at others greed or bitterness

or worry

oftimes people stand as a crowd

rather than sit in the

seat of knowledge

yet people will someday learn that

to learn of others’ sins can

sometimes help to cure

our own

or just ease it
